It CAME! My poultry waterer from Coop Queen arrived last week.
It's embarrassing to admit how happy this made me.
Here is the info sheet included in the box. A few quotes:
"All across the country a revolution is quietly brewing in small coops and hen houses."
See? I knew my rooster Big Daddy was up to no good!
"The secret lies in a very simple fitting, the drinker nipple....these nipples form the heart of the drinking system. As a rule when planning your watering system, provide 1 nipple for every 3 birds."
I'm telling you, this is more fun than sprinkling "bitches" into casual conversation when talking about female dogs.
Everyone should get one of these, chickens or no chickens. Just so you can say drinker nipple, or chicken nipple. It's fun for the whole family!
I haven't set it up just yet, but I will this weekend. Pictures to follow....

Morning Anne! LOVE the new look of your Blog. Its clean and streamliney. Chicken Nipple....there I said it. Very entertaining. Now..I will have to get that out of my head before I go to work so I don't say it to my boss or my clients...LOL I guess if I got really upset I could use it in lou of a cuss word?? That would work...right? LOL Again, thanks for the entertainment! Hope you have a great day...& Im still impressed you blog everyday...even if its not at 1:30 AM..;)
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious! By the way I have been voting for you when I come and visit :)
ReplyDelete@Rachelle: Thanks! I love your word. Streamliney. When I was a young teen, I actually had a favorite fork that I would go digging around the drawer for. My sister asked me why I liked it. I told her it was just very forky. It was my forky fork. You seem like the kind of person that gets that, and I like that about you ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as far as the use of "chicken nipple", I would say try it out as a frustration expletive. Spill your cofee? Lost a document? "Chicken nipples!"
@MamaHen: Hilarity is one of my many goals, so for that I thank you. And for your votes, I thank you. In general? Thank you...
Anne, yes...I totally get the forky fork...and thats funny and thats the lingo I grew up with and eventually married...we are utterly and completely entertained by our own selves...It's a beautiful thang! Oh and the look on my husbands face after I read your blog and immediatly looked at him and said, "Good bye hunny, have a great day, and be thinking 'chicken nipples'...I will explain it when I get home tonight." Priceless..and of course he couldnt leave and I had to explain you and your chicken nipples to. You are making mornings roll around here girl!
DeleteLeave it to you to get nipples for your chickens. I think I do want one of those fancy nipple things now, but do you think cats would go for the nipple idea?
ReplyDelete@Rooster Inn: the cats would simply look at you very haughtily and ask why you weren't doing it for them.
ReplyDeleteAnne, hope your waterer works! When I started keeping chickens I was so surprised at how dirty they are. The can really muck up their water.
ReplyDeleteRobyn, how right you are! And I am nowhere NEAR a good enough caretaker to keep the waterer as clean as it should be, so this system is perfect for me! I'll let you know how it goes...
ReplyDeleteHaha you are naughty.
ReplyDeleteNew farm "gadgets" are always fun to acquire.
ReplyDeleteWould appreciate a link in your post to Rural Thursdays if you have time. Thank you.
I've never even heard of such a thing!
ReplyDelete@Amanda, Nancy, and Lisa, it's true, I tell you, it's true!!!
ReplyDeleteSo its been a few months. How are the nipples? Ha Ha! It is funny to type that. I am considering "upgrading" my watering system in the coop re-model and was wondering if they have a problem with leaking (chuckle). I want to keep the waterer in the coop but don't want a wet floor. It's bad enough that my girls shake water all over the walls like a dog after every drink. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTeehee! Sorry, it always makes me giggle.
DeleteAnyway, I'm afraid it's not perfect. The nipples do leak. Not that they leak on their own, but when the chickens tap them to get a drink, some of the water drips to the floor. If you can strategize placement, you might be OK. And I keep bricks under mine, and that helps. Or maybe an oil pan with sawdust could work? Definitely worth consideration, and I;ll never go back to a fountain.
