In less than two months I had a perfect pumpkin on one and the other vine I planted is loaded! We just tilled up our corn to plant more pumpkins. I'm hoping we'll have a bonafide pumpkin patch by late October!Heatherhttp://www.amateurteacher.yolasite.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574217133769042898.post-705507096041362732012-07-30T06:11:26.418-07:002012-07-30T06:11:26.418-07:00We are looking forward to pumpkins also.We are looking forward to pumpkins also.Rachel Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02349620560633134247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574217133769042898.post-46447641572470644012012-07-28T08:33:19.446-07:002012-07-28T08:33:19.446-07:00Done- both links.Done- both links.Kathy Felsted Usherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10471923897561942341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574217133769042898.post-83373285209508912522012-07-28T05:58:19.520-07:002012-07-28T05:58:19.520-07:00@Rachelle: you know, I never thought to give some ...@Rachelle: you know, I never thought to give some to my horses. I'll have to try that this year. Thanks for the tip!
@Robyn: I'm hoping we'll have a good crop, I'm just worried b/c I planted them so late. I guess we'll see....
@Dee: Love the idea of putting a "mystery plant" in the garden and letting kids try to figure out what it is! The first time we ever grew pumpkin, "we" didn't actually grow it -- my pig did! We had fed her the pumpkin guts after carving, and when she pooped out the seeds, pumpkins grew in her manure!! So when I planted them for real this year, I made sure the soil was, er, "well-nourished"!
@Daisy: Thanks! I'm hopeful....Anne Birdsonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02834796541721743227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574217133769042898.post-80678145609326272832012-07-28T03:12:35.108-07:002012-07-28T03:12:35.108-07:00Best wishes with your pumpkins. We got enough pumpkins to let all the kids decorate their own for Halloween, lots of fun for very little effort/money. This year, we have another mystery plant in the garden, we know it's some kind of squash or pumpkin but no fruit yet...love the anticipation! I may just start sneaking things into the garden plot each year for fun.alphamamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08800623490932946151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574217133769042898.post-76674101485405393502012-07-27T07:56:13.684-07:002012-07-27T07:56:13.684-07:00Anne, I like your idea of planting the pumpkins al...Anne, I like your idea of planting the pumpkins along the stone wall and letting them jungle out. I was working in my MIL's garden last weekend and her pumpkins are taking over the entire site.

My pumpkins didn't make it. I had high hopes to have something to use and decor and to paint this fall. It will look perfect. My horses love pumpkin to eat and there are many good pumpkin recipes out there. I cut a few up and froze them last year. I made pumpkin turkey chowder a few times during the year this year with it. It is wonderful!
Looks like you will have plenty. Maybe your kids will want to make one of those midevil boulder throwers and load the pumpkins on it and have a war! If that happens my boy is all IN on that:) Happy Friday!Rachellenoreply@blogger.com
