Farm Friday: Stress Relief

Whenever I'm in the middle of scratching 42,000 things off my to-do list, and I remember I have to run out to the barn to feed or water or fix or clean or shut in or let out, I think to myself...

Aaaaauuuuuuggggghhhhhh!!!!!

I don't have TIME for this nonsense!

That's it. I am getting rid of ALL the animals. All 54 of them.
Well. 16 of them are going to be offed in a few weeks, so I guess I shouldn't count them.

And my heart is racing a mile a minute and my brain is on overdrive trying to problem-solve three things at once.

But then I actually GO to the barn to do whatever it is, and things change.

The change goes like this:

stomp, stomp, stomp.

*&%#@! animals!

I don't have time to haul water buckets!
I don't have time to scoop feed!
flibbertywbitz...

pant-pant
heave

zixcyvbinym...

I don't....

well hello little chicky.

Aren't you the cutest little thing ever, sitting on my foot.

Scurry along now, so I can give you some nice, fresh water.

I brought you some treats.

Would you like a piece of French toast?

That's right, run along now with it.

Oooh, haha, don't let the others get it from you!

Chuckle.

beat.......beat.......beat.......beat.......beat......

Sigh....

Guess I'll keep 'em around a little longer.

  1. Ha! Funny how those animal chores that we hate doing are the ones that pull us outside and lighten our moods. I guess that's why I get grumpy these days. Our pigs are gone and the kids do the dog and chicken chores. I don't have any animals to pull me outside.

  2. I hear ya, I've threatened to boil up my dogs on more than one occasion, then they come over and snuggle and kiss me and well, I'm stuck. Thought I was reaching freedom a few months back when my cocker died, but after four weeks of no cocker, my home was so empty, so we have another. *sigh* Gotta love 'em.

  3. Awesome blog! It made me smile and get those warm fuzzies inside. I'm glad you were able to complete item number 21,052 (funny farm blog) on your to-do list, so that I could enjoy it.

I found you because I am finally (yeah, I'm busy in my own way, too, though not as busy as you, the way it sounds) doing the MNINB April Platform challenge, and day 6 sent me looking for you!

Thank you for your blog. I think I'll be visiting you again soon.

  8. WOW! I'm so glad you stopped by my blog today...I'm excited to read a few posts about your busy life. I'd say you are a WonderWoman...whether you think so or not, it sounds like you wear many hats and deal with a lot of issues. I am wild about redheads (like my hubby & 5 of our 8 grandchildren) and adore that freckled face in your header. I surely appreciate what you are doing to make a difference in the life of some troubled children. Sweet Blessings on you and yours!

  9. Farm life is great therapy for the kids and mom too, huh? Sometimes I also feel that way about off-grid homesteading, but then I stop and think, and know I wouldn't want it any other way right now. We live a blessed life.

  10. Haha! I do the same thing. "Chickens, get out of the garden! I swear I'm going to eat every one of you ... oh, you're trapped, aren't you? Silly birds, what would I do without you? I'd have to start watching television for entertainment."

What a cute blog! I'm signing up for updates right now! :-)

  11. I just love the little chicky. Life in the farm could sometimes be a bit hectic, but somehow when you see the sweet face of a little chick or cow, it makes it all worth while. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy Sunday.
